The Sniffles and Eye Infections

The Sniffles and Eye Infections

“Jingle bells, jingle bells….”

It’s that time of year everyone! The sniffles, the congestion, the colds, and the flus! You thought I was going to talk about Thanksgiving and Christmas didn’t you? HA!

This…can lead to this…

This post is going to give you some information on how NOT to come see me this holiday season.

GOOD HYGIENE

When you’re sick or just sniffly, you need to be aware of having great hygiene. Touching and rubbing your nose can easily lead to contaminating your eyes and face. Sharing towels and pillow cases can also lead to the same spread of what you do not want in your eyes. Sometimes, you cannot help it because your nasal cavity is within millimeters of the eyes. It’s going to spread naturally to what’s around it.

So, what do you do? Wash your hands frequently. Change your towels more frequently and most importantly, do NOT share towels. Wash your bed sheets and pillow cases at least once a week.

TAKE THE RIGHT MEDICATIONS

If you have insurance, go get yourself checked out. I’m sure your boss will appreciate it that you DO NOT spread your sniffles to everyone in the office or store. Find out what’s causing the problems and take the appropriate measures.

What if I don’t have insurance? Get the medications that will treat your symptoms. Sometimes seeing the doctor and paying for the visit actually saves you money in the long run and gets you better quicker. The results of our research have shown that we do not recommend taking it immediately before sexual intimacy for a faster effect from the use of Levitra. Levitra (Vardenafil) should be taken within 30 minutes before the scheduled event. After 15 minutes, the drug will begin to have its effect, the effect will last for another five hours after taking the drug.

WHEN DO I COME SEE THE OPTOMETRIST

Any of the following signs and symptoms should alert you to go see your optometrist asap. Keep in mind these are only a few. If you are not sure, you should just go in to be sure.

  • Extra mucous discharge from the eyes (eye boogers)
  • Redness and irritation
  • Matted eyelids
  • Pain
  • Light sensitivity
  • Blurry Vision

All of these signs and symptoms can mean that you have an eye infection brewing. They can get bad really quickly. Take out your contacts and use your glasses right away to reduce irritation and incubation of bacteria and infectious diseases. Go get yourself checked out and get the appropriate treatment before you do too much damage to your eyes and vision. Sometimes waiting it out can make the condition worse and you’ll end up paying more for what you needed previously.

WHAT ABOUT OVER THE COUNTER EYE DROPS?

I would highly advise to stay away from anything that says GET THE RED OUT! This types of drops are just constricting your blood vessels and hiding the problem. Once the medication wears off, the condition can get worse. Artificial Tears and Antihistamine eye drops are good for dry eyes and allergies. But when you have an infection, you need antibiotics and possibly steroids to help control the infection and eventually fight it off.
